A Glorious Day

It was an absolutely glorious day today.  We are in the last week before Christmas - it's quite hard to believe!  I had to be up early this morning to take Mum to the Cardiologist for one of her regular check-ups.   Mum's cardiologist views Mum as some sort of medical miracle because we know that Mum has a fairly major leak in one of her valves but she shows no outward indication that it is a problem, no breathlessness, no erratic heartbeat.  All her tests today were fine, bloodtests and ECG.  She will return next March for another ultrasound and in the meantime we just have to keep an eye on her.

I took her home and had a cup of tea with her plus helped out with her current jigsaw before saying goodbye.  I will see her next on Christmas Day.  I am not going back down to Paphos this week - I have too much I need to do in order to be ready for the festive weekend.

We had the last of our Shopping to do.  I wanted to get everything done today so that the remainder of the week is less stressful.  This is Paps in Polis on the Monday before Christmas Day (Sunday) and it was an absolute pleasure to get around.  We reckon we have everything we need and then some!  It is so much nicer to have been organised this year, cards and presents sorted pretty early on and menus planned and catered for.

We had a phonecall from the Upholsterer to say our waterproof sail was ready (I only went and ordered it on Friday).  It is to go out the back of the kitchen so that when John goes to the drinks fridge/freezer he doesn't get soaked.

This is one sturdy sail and should do the trick perfectly.  It is too dark and thick to be suitable for the summer - we will return to the sails which Richard gave us for that.

The weather forecast doesn't show rain for the next week or so but as Cyprus usually has the worst of its winter weather in January and February we shall be ready for it.

As I said earlier it was an absolutely gorgeous day today and we made a good amount of electricity bearing in mind it is December.  It wasn't that cold in the house either but John's Mighty Blades were playing tonight and on TV so as the game didn't start until nearly 10.00pm we decided to have a fire but left the doors and windows inside open so that the heat traveled through the house.  It is lovely when it is like that - it feels like we have central heating and the cats are very appreciative.  The good thing is that they stay in the lounge overnight and don't disturb me during the night.

It was a sausage and mash with red wine and caramelized onion gravy kind of night and blooming lovely it was too.  We had this and then settled down to the last few remaining episodes of Wednesday before I retired to bed early and John stayed up to watch his team.  Unusually he didn't have to sit through a 0-0 draw - the Blades actually managed a 2-1 win.
