Monsoon Conditions

The weather-forecasters got it right today it was wild and we had exceptionally high winds, heavy rain, thunder and then periods of bright sunshine.  We had planned to go out with Dip and Karen for a belated celebration of Karen's big birthday but they sensibly decided to postpone it - we were neither surprised not disappointed - it is so much better to go out when the wind is not going to have you over.

Part way through the morning John decided that we should go for a walk as it wasn't raining - he had lost a pair of sunglasses yesterday.  We were like Piglet and Pooh and the Blustery Day as we battled our way around the village.  We didn't find the glasses but we did go into the post office and picked up post for our estate which included a parcel from my lovely friend Hazel which had arrived a little late for my birthday but I don't mind.  It gave me the opportunity to video call her and catch up - she had just returned from a holiday to Italy - literally late last night.

Hazel and I have known each other for a very long time.  She is the best friend a person could wish for and she restores my faith in the human race because she manages to see the best in everyone and everything.  I am so looking forward to her coming out - we will have such a laugh I am sure because we always do.  This year I will have known her for 45 years!!!

In my parcel was the card to the right and a beautiful scarf which I am going to have to keep away from my neighbour Jan because it is multicoloured like a peacock feather and Jan is using that as inspiration for her colour scheme in part of the house next door!

Actually she fell in love with a cushion in PoliHome when we went out yesterday and I have seen a peacock cushion that my friend Yola is selling so if it is still available I will see if I can get it when I go down to Mums tomorrow and then I can give it to her as a present.  She was so kind as to cart over all the things I had ordered and had delivered to her house in the UK.

We noticed some new signs in the village as we were walking through - these show two of the cycling routes which pass through the village - sadly they aren't circular but John has used elements of each on rides which he has planned for the boys.  They are hoping to go out again tomorrow if the weather is calm enough and then again on Saturday.  They all seem to enjoy it which is good and at least they are getting exercise.  I hope to go out on my bike again - I am just waiting for Gail to get her bike sorted - apparently she needs new brakes - rather an important requirement I would say!

The village was quiet.  When the sun was shining and you were out of the wind it wasn't too bad.  In fact we made some reasonable amounts of electricity under the circumstances.

We returned home and battened down the hatches.  It was a day for keeping warm - thank goodness for the conservatory.  We had leftover lasagne to eat up so I didn't have to worry about cooking anything.  Once we had eaten we settled down to start a new series - I had chosen The Staircase starring Colin Firth.  The sound quality is awful so it is no good recommending it to Mum.
