The Coronation

Today was about one thing and one thing only the Coronation and it started out as a grey and miserable day here in Cyprus.   Bad weather had been forecast but fortunately we managed to avoid any thunder and lightning which would have inevitably led to a power cut.

As Gail and Pete are camping out in their lounge we asked them if they wanted to watch the spectacle with us.  We didn't expect that they would accept but they were well up for it and sealed their presence with the promise of some freshly made sausage rolls!  I got up early and put together a 'picky' lunch which included some freshly made coronation chicken sandwiches!

The whole event was absolutely amazing.  Some funny moments like the opera singer dressed like a massive daffodil!

We watched it all - and would you believe it the only bloody blip on our stream was exactly at the point when the crown was placed on Charles's head - just a nano-second but we could have put money on that.

We had started with our picky lunch and then settled to watch.  It was all very civilised and all very British here as we were drinking non-alcoholic fizz and tea because John was going to the airport to pick up Argy and Lakis and Gail is being good so that when she goes and has her heart op next week there is no trace of alcohol in her bloodstream.

Fair to say it was a day to remember and brought back memories of the time John and I were lucky enough to go to Buckingham Palace for a Garden Party.  In fact one of John's friends, Jason, was actually taking part yesterday leading the Naval marchers up the Mall.

So now we have King Charles and Queen Camilla - love them or hate them this photograph is lovely and I think captures the faces of two people who actually really care for one another.  He should have been allowed to marry her in the first place in my opinion.

John went off to the airport to pick up Lakis and Argy.  Their flight had been delayed by about an hour and a quarter - possibly because they would have been traversing London airspace at the time of the fly-past who knows?  I didn't stay up to say hello - it was way past my bedtime but we will have plenty of time to see them over the coming months.
