A Fabulous Celebration

So today is the day of Lakis and Argy's 50th wedding anniversary.  I was up early to go and see Dr Lykoudis.  On my arrival the waiting room was pretty full already with people waiting to see various consultants including Sheila.  I sat next to her and we realised that everyone seemed to have been given an appointment time of 9.00am and more worryingly for me when I had asked to see Dr Lykoudis the girl on reception had not put my name on the list.  No one seemed bothered by this although I was.  It was chaos but luckily enough the Doctor came out spotted me and called me in - before Sheila!  Anyway mine was a very brief visit - apparently someone will phone me on Monday and tell me exactly when my operation is going to be.

We then went to Paps to go and get Argy's balloons inflated.  Apparently Paps will do this for a fee of around 2 euros for balloons purchased elsewhere.  Unfortunately the first one inflated broke loose and ended up stuck to the ceiling.  A girl came along with a Heath Robinson metal pole with a ball of sticky masking tape on the top and eventually managed to stick the ball to the balloon and fetch it down.  She put the pole away and then it fell striking me on my good shoulder - she was mortified.  Anyway we managed to get the three blown up.  By the time we took them over the runaway balloon had started to deflate and during the course of the afternoon got blown away.  Argy gave me the two others to put outside and I was attaching them to a heavy stone I had when another blew away.  By this time the third had already started to deflate so we had to fashion a way of sticking it to the wall!

Despite some last minute cancelations and some concerns about the food arriving on time and being what Argy was hoping for the evening was amazing.  The weather was absolutely perfect so the seating area for pre meal drinkies came in handy as the guests could sit down and get to know one another.  Most were friends and neighbours who live at Lordos 1 or have holiday homes there plus Argy's long time friend Sotiroula and her husband Giorgos (Sotiroula is in orange with her back to the picture and Giorgos is on her left).

So here are three of the Lordos Ladies booted and spurred and ready to party.  I have to thank Argy for the fabulous dress which I was wearing as it had been a gift from her and the shape was so flattering and I loved the colours - Jan it was peacocky!!!  And yes I am having a glass of red wine which I have avoided for weeks but actually this was really really nice.

Our lovely friends need not have worried about anything because the evening was perfect.  The people, the food, the speech which Lakis gave which had me and John with a lump in our throats.  Everyone seemed to have a really good time and the food was out of this world - even better Argy piled us up with trays to take home!!!

Lakis had hoped that people might want to have a dance.  Nicky and Mark duly obliged when one of their favourite slow and gropies was played and Sotiroula and Lakis joined in - they complemented each other perfectly with the shades of their clothing.

Even the sunset got the brief - it was spectacular.  Oh what a night - congratulations to Lakis and Argy on their 50 years of marriage and completing the renovations on 2b which have turned it into a truly magnificent home - they should be very very proud as we are very very proud to call them friends.

I just couldn't resist posting this bit of video - sorry Lakis but it was classic! although maybe not as classic as you serenading Argy in our garden!!!!
