It is John's Birthday weekend and so we met with most of the neighbours last night at Kaponas and had a lovely, if somewhat impromptu evening, and then today we had arranged to go to The Farmyard in Kathikas with our lovely friends (and neighbours) Lakis and Argy who have returned from their little break in Spilia.
Argy had bought John a beautiful shirt for his birthday and he was a brave bunny and wore it to eat his Thai food which could well have ended in disaster but did not!
This is not my photograph but one from the Farmyard website which shows one of the starters which we had this evening, Chicken Satay with their legendary super spicy Satay sauce which we teamed with prawn crackers, spicy chicken wings and spring rolls.
Argy and Lakis had crispy duck for their main course and John and I had our usual, John crispy chili beef and me honey chicken with extra chili. It was all absolutely wonderful and we had such a nice evening which we rounded off with a drink at 2B before calling it a day. The celebrations and activities of the previous week have really caught up on us and we were knackered.
So a big fat Happy Birthday to John who celebrated his 56th birthday today on what would have been Dad's 92 birthday and which was my lovely Uncle David's 91st birthday. We had chosen to spend it quietly at home just doing very little save for a day punctuated by visits from friends and neighbours with cards and gifts which was lovely.
Our day started with breakfast outside. Some freshly brewed coffee and cheese filled croissants which we had mid morning and afterwards John opened his cards and presents.
It gave us an opportunity to start thinking about what we are going to do when JJ&S are with us. They arrive late on Wednesday so we are guessing Thursday morning will be leisurely as they catch up on sleep and acclimatise themselves although they have stayed in the Corner House before.
They have given us a list of places we have mentioned that they have not been to or eaten at before. We like to try and find new things for them plus I am busy putting together a craft day for them and have decided on air-dry clay Christmas Decorations. This involved a very hasty visit to Jumbos yesterday morning to pick up some supplies.
John spent the remainder of the day watching the formula 1 qualifiers before settling down to watch the Mighty Blades clutch defeat from the jaws of victory at Spurs - was a debacle that turned out to be and was the only grey cloud on an otherwise sunny and successful birthday.
We finished off with a steak supper which was considerably more successful than his favourite football team thank goodness. So apart from the not so Mighty Blades is had been a lovely day!
