A fabulous lunch at Vasilikon Winery with Kirt and Donna

Today we caught up with Kirt and Donna although we had spoken to them briefly yesterday when they had gone to Latchi for lunch and were sitting on the table behind us.  Kirt is part of John's and therefore by marriage my extended family!  Kirt's brother Dip is the long term partner of John's cousin Karen.  I am not sure but they might even be referred to as Our Kirt and Our Donna and if so that confirms their status as members of our extended family.  We had met Kirt for the first time last year when he was visiting Dip and they come up to Latchi.  Kirt fell in love with Cyprus and returned with Donna earlier this year to celebrate his 50th birthday and we joined them at the Pelican at Paphos Harbour for a special meal.

Today Kirt had wanted to show Donna the winery at Vasilikon - it was a glorious day and so they drove up to us first and then we drove them across to have lunch and a little glass of wine together!

Our friends Gail and Pete highly recommend the shrimp pasta which they serve here and so that is what Kirt and Donna chose.  I had chicken souvlaki and John had a pork chop.

I think it is fair to say that it was a resounding success - fabulous temperature, amazing views, stunning food and delicious wine - even the company was good!!!  What's not to like???

We sat chatting for hours - in fact I thought the Winery closed at 4.00pm, it used to but now they are staying open until 6.00pm which means that at the moment you could be there for sunset.  The weather and the evening temperatures wont hold out for much longer.

We wandered back to our place where we continued to chat, suggesting some places they might like to visit before they return to the UK.  They particularly like this end of the island so we suggested going out to Pomos and maybe sitting and having a snack at Koulas Sandwiches to take in the stunning view.  We also thought they might like to have a special meal at Finikas in Polis as they both appreciate good food.

They are due out again next year on two separate occasions and so we will see them again for sure.  It was a lovely day all round and they managed to make their way back to Universal without any problems.
