Bye Bye Jan and Derek...

It was a full on day for me today because at long last I was going to see Lumi my lovely hairdresser.  My hair is now so fine and so lacking in body (apparently because I no longer colour it) that I have been desperate for something to give it a bit of oomph and Lumi had persuaded me to grow my hair a bit so that she could give it a 'root' perm for said oomph.  I was uncertain, I told her I didn't want to end up looking like a female Michael Jackson.  She asked me if I had had an unfortunate experience in the past with a perm and I said that I had, back in the 70s when afro perms were popular.  I had one of these perms hoping that it might make me look more attractive to one of the boys on the school bus but he just looked at me in horror and said "we have a bush just like that at home!"  I was mortified.

This is not a great picture but what I have ended up with is waves and thereby a bit more height and volume.  I can't wash my hair until Saturday which is a bit of a trial for me and I am bothered that I wont be able to dry it anything like Lumi did but at least there is nothing vaguely horticultural about it thank God!

I did my shopping but failed in my quest to find a longer resistance band so looks like I will have a second week of inadequate arm stretches with Ermolia!!!  I have just found out that her class in Neo Chorio is part of an initiative by the Cyprus Sports Organistion's Sport for All Programme which offers a free programme for people over 63 years of age so at least there are some benefits to getting older!!!

I then took Mum shopping.  I was greeted with the news that her TV system wasn't working.  I have truly never known anyone have such difficulties but as I try and explain to her she is with Primetel who are pants providers and in a room which used to be outside space so power and internet is cobbled together from elsewhere so it just isn't very stable.  She wont budge from using that room though even though there is no central heating in there it is much smaller than the lounge so that is where she prefers to sit.  She has also said that rent permitting she wants to stay there so we are not going to get rid of the complaints about the TV any time soon.

We were round at Jan and Derek's for a farewell meal this evening.  We are taking them to the airport in the early hours of Friday morning - some ungodly hour that we normally never see!!!  Bless Jan, for all the other jobs she has on her plate, she insisted on cooking a meal and very nice it was too.  It was also nice to see the progress she and Derek have made to the house, although they probably don't see it like we do.  The kitchen/lounge/diner is actually nearly complete and looks nice and Jan has upholstered the new sofa to match her peacock chairs.

Part way through the evening we were joined by Charlie who obviously felt well enough to come and investigate what we were up to and he made himself at home in Jan's which apparently he does every night - little bugger!

A lovely evening.  Tomorrow I have physio and a few errands to run so it wasn't a late night.
